The August winners of the "SMBC Trust Bank Farm Monthly MVP Award" have been announced. In the East Division, Hokkaido Nippon-Ham's Leo Shibata, in the Central Division, Saitama Seibu Lions' Sowa Yokota, and in the West Division, Fukuoka Softbank's Yoshiyasu Sasakawa were selected. Each winning player will receive a commemorative gift from the Farm League and prize money from SMBC Trust Bank, Ltd.
Hokkaido Nippon-Ham's two-way player Shibata appeared in 14 games in August, recording a .341 batting average, and leading the division with 5 Home Runs, 17 RBI, and a .773 slugging percentage. On the 15th, when he started on the mound, although he allowed the opening run, he immediately followed up with a go-ahead 3-run homer. He was promoted to the first team on September 8th, where he delivered a strong relief performance with 2 innings, 1 hit, 2 strike outs, and no runs. The following day, the 9th, he was in the starting line-up as the DH and recorded 2 hits, including his first professional hit.
Saitama Seibu Lions' 5th-round rookie Yokota played in 19 games in August, consistently hitting for a .393 average (2nd in the division) and achieving a division-leading .457 on-base percentage.
Regarding his first Monthly MVP award, he commented: "I am very honored to receive the Monthly MVP. I am happy that I was able to play while seeking results during games and that it contributed to the team's win. One of the achievements is that my extra-base hits have gradually increased, and I feel that maintaining a high batting average in particular led to this award. To succeed in the first team, I want to continue desperately appealing my skills and work hard every day so that I can contribute to the team's win on the first-team stage."
Sasakawa won the award for the first time in his 6th professional year. He appeared in all 22 games in August, leading the division with 29 hits, 4 Home Runs, 15 RBI, and a .485 slugging percentage, while also recording 9 stolen bases (2nd in the division). Regarding the reason for his good performance, he said, "Although there are waves where my condition is good or bad, I have become able to respond even when I'm not in top form and utilize my repertoire of skills." He expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "The season hasn't ended for either the first or second team yet, so I want to keep doing what I need to do until the end, prepare well so I'm ready whenever I'm called up to the first team, and contribute properly when that time comes."
