The "Taiju Life Monthly MVP Award" for August 2026 was announced, with Seibu Lions pitcher Chihiro Sumida winning in the pitcher category and Chiba Lotte Marines player Koki Yamaguchi winning in the fielder category.

This is the second time Sumida has received the award, following his first win in March/April 2025. He becomes the 10th pitcher in Seibu Lions history to win the award multiple times, following Tatsuya Imai (currently with the Astros), and the first left-handed pitcher in club history to achieve this record. Sumida started 4 games in August, pitching 31 innings and allowing only 2 runs. He achieved an HQS in every game, finishing with a 2-0 record and a dominant monthly ERA of 0.58.

On the other hand, Yamaguchi received the award for the first time. In August, he played in 24 games, leading the lineup with 29 hits in 96 At Bats, 10 Home Runs, 17 RBI, and a monthly batting average of .302. Starting from the game against Fukuoka Softbank on August 26th, he recorded home runs in four consecutive games. On the 28th, he broke the record for the most home runs by a Japanese player in the club since the move to Chiba, previously held by Kiyoshi Hatsushiba.

▼Comment from Yamaguchi▼
"Thank you very much for selecting me this time. I am honestly very happy. I feel that August was a month where everything went exactly as I hoped. I remember most clearly hitting a home run on my birthday, August 18th. I want to stay focused on my RBI and home run numbers, and I will work hard to hit as much as possible in clutch situations so that I can definitely reach 30 home runs, even though there are few games remaining."
