In the top of the fifth inning, with the score tied at 1–1, starting pitcher Mouri—a second-round draft pick and left-hander from Meiji University—allowed three consecutive hits, putting runners on base with no outs bases loaded. At this point, Manager Saburo brought in Yagi as the second pitcher.Yagi got Tatsumi to swing and miss struck out and induced a groundout to shortstop from McCusker double play, escaping the inning with no outs runs.
