It was revealed on the 12th that Seibu Lions infielder Takeya Nakamura (43) and catcher Ginjiro Sumitani (39) will continue their active playing careers next season.
Although Takeya Nakamura did not have an opportunity to play in the three games of the CS First Stage, his clutch hitting remains strong; during the regular season, he hit his first Home Run of the year—a bases loaded shot—as a pinch hitter in the 11th extra inning against the Rakuten Eagles (Rakuten Mobile) on August 21st, marking his 23rd consecutive year with a Home Run. He is now 18 away from a career total of 500. With the retirement of Ishikawa from Yakult, who was the oldest active player, Nakamura will become the oldest active player next season.
Sumitani exercised his free agent rights in the 2018 off-season to transfer to The Giants, then moved to the Rakuten Eagles via a cash trade in July 2021. After being released in the 2023 off-season, he returned to the Seibu Lions for the first time in six years. In 2025, he appeared in 40 games and hit two walk-off hits, but he had no first-team appearances this season. The club continues to value both players as assets for the next season.
