Orix Buffaloes manager Mamoru Kishida (45) launched a 'high-tech autumn' on the 10th. On the first day of autumn practice in Maishima, Osaka, he set the theme, stating, 'This autumn will focus on the physical side. We need to become one or two levels stronger.' He also revealed plans for the team to actively utilize external facilities.
He has already requested the team to introduce specialized equipment for motion analysis, which other teams are focusing on. Until the facilities are fully equipped, he will have individual players visit 'labs' within the Kansai region to collect data. 'All sports involve moving by using the ground. We will clearly quantify their movements, as well as the timing and direction of the force they exert.' The policy is to measure ground reaction force (the force received from the ground when stepping down) for both pitchers and fielders to derive training methods that lead to improved performance and injury prevention.
With a succession of injuries to both pitchers and batters this season, the team finished in the bottom half of the standings for the first time in two years. Declaring that he will become a 'demon' heading into his third year in office, the manager stated, 'We will enter into strict and grueling training.' He aims to push forward with reforms and rebuild a perennially winning team. (Shunta Nambu)
